The Reduction Linocut Process
A short set of pictures to show how a reduction Linocut is built up, using layers of inks and carving away at the same block to gradually build up a picture.

I first printed a layer of pale yellow over the complete surface by printing with the uncarved Lino. The areas that I wanted to remain this colour, i.e. the highlights on the metal part of the brushes were then carved away. The blue layer was rolled on and printed giving the effect that you see in this picture.

The areas that I want to remain blue (the brush bristles) were carved away and the green layer added, you can now see that the blue stands out.

After the green was printed it was time to cut away the areas that I wanted to keep green. A brown layer was added and this highlights the green areas of the glass dish.
